Updates on the AIBE 2024 Exam
The AIBE 2024 exam was held on December 22, 2024. Candidates who qualify in the exam will be awarded the Certificate of Practice (CoP), which is required to practice in a court of law.

- Mandate – The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) was implemented by a notification passed by the Legal Education Committee and the members of the Bar Council of India on April 10, 2010 and April 30, 2010.
- AIBE is not an entrance exam – Candidates who qualify in the AIBE exam are issued the Certificate of Practice (CoP). However, AIBE scores are not accepted for admission purposes, unlike entrance exams like CLAT and AILET.
- Certificate of Practice (CoP) – This certificate is mandatory to practice in a court of law. All candidates who qualify the AIBE exam and meet the prescribed eligibility criteria are issued the CoP.
- The CoP is issued by the BCI.
- Skill Tested – The AIBE exam examines the candidates readiness to practice law in Indian courts. It assesses the ability at a basic level and is designed to set a minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law.
Enrollment with State Bar Council
Asd per a BCI notification dated 25.9.2024, LLB graduates who have not enrolled with any State Bar Council, as well as those who have enrolled but have surrendered their enrollment certificates are eligible to apply for the AIBE exam.

Q1. Does the AIBE exam include subjective questions?
Answer – The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a national-level exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI) to assess a candidate’s knowledge of the law.
As per the AIBE 2025 exam pattern, the question paper will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each worth one mark, with no negative marking. Subjective-type questions will not be asked in the exam.
The exam focuses on testing legal knowledge rather than essay writing or case analysis.

Answer – It is highly recommended that candidates solve AIBE previous year’s question papers for effective exam preparation.

Q5: Do I need to get enrolled as an advocate with a State Bar Council to appear in the AIBE exam?
Answer – As per a BCI notification dated 25.9.2024, it is not mandatory to get enrolled with a State Bar Council to appear in the AIBE exam.
Q5: How does an advocate become eligible to enrol with a State Bar Council as an advocate?
Answer – To enroll with a State Bar Council, the person must hold a legal degree and be an Indian citizen. He or she must also pay an enrollment fee.
The enrollment application will then be reviewed by the enrollment committee, which will either approve or reject it.
If rejected, the National Bar Council and other State Bar Councils will be informed, along with the reasons for the decision. The applicant has the right to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court or the High Court if they wish to challenge the Bar Association’s ruling.
Q6. What is the minimum percentage required in graduation (3-year or 5-year LLB) to appear in the AIBE exam?
Answer – BCI hasn’t prescribed any minimum marks or percentage for appearing in the AIBE exam. So, candidates who have completed their graduation (3 year or 5 year LLB degree) are eligible for the AIBE exam.
However, the candidate must meet the minimum percentage or other requirements set by their respective university for graduation.
Q7. Can I register for the AIBE 20 (XX) 2025 exam in offline mode?
Answer – The registration process for the AIBE 2025 exam will be conducted in online mode.
Q8. What is the maximum number of attempts for qualifying the AIBE exam?
Answer – There is no limit to the number of attempts. So, you may appear in the exam as many times as may be required to qualify.
Q9: I am from a reserved category. Am I eligible for any concessions while applying for the AIBE 2025 exam?
Answer – No, there are special benefits for candidates belonging to reserved categories.
Q10: Will the AIBE syllabus be the same as the one I followed at law school?
Answer – The AIBE 2025 exam syllabus is prescribed by the BCI. The syllabus to a large extent mirrors the syllabus followed by law schools for their 3-year and 5-year LLB programs.
The emphasis of the AIBE exam will be on:

Q12: Can I carry bare acts with notes inside the AIBE exam hall?
Answer – The AIBE is no longer an open-book exam. So, candidates are not allowed to carry Bare Acts with comments inside the AIBE (XX) 2025 exam hall.
However, since Bare Acts are not available with many, the BCI allows the candidates to carry Bare Acts with short notes.
