IELTS Exam – IDP Education Ltd. conducts the IELTS exam, which is an English-language proficiency test. The candidate has the option to take the exam in a paper-based or computer-based format.

The two most popular types of IELTS tests are the IELTS Academic Test and the IELTS General Training test.

Students planning to pursue higher education or work in an English-speaking country can take the IELTS Academic test. The test assesses the English-language proficiency of the candidate at an academic level and determines whether the student is ready for the UG or PG program, or intends to work in a professional setting, such as doctor, nurse, teacher or lawyer.

The Academic test determines the English-language proficiency of the candidate across the four skillsets – listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Note that the Listening and Speaking parts of the test are the same for both Academic and General Training, while the Reading and Writing parts are different.

Note that you can take the IELTS General Training test if you intend to:

  • Migrate to English-speaking countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the UK
  • Study or train below degree level (read about IELTS Academic here)
  • Work in an English-speaking country, or get another job in your own country

The IELTS exam will be conducted in two modes – IELTS on paper test or IELTS on computer test.

In the computer-based test, The Reading, Writing, and Listening tests are on a computer, but the Speaking test is a face-to-face discussion.

Note that the IELTS exam will have four parts – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Now we know that there are two types of IELTS – Academic and General Training.

The Speaking and Listening tests are the same in both types, but the Reading and Writing tests are different.

IELTS Academic Test – Section-wise tasks and syllabus

SectionQuestion paper structure
WritingThe section will include TWO tasks:

Writing Task 1: You will be shown a visual representation of information; a graph, table, chart or diagram, and you have to summarise, describe or explain the information you see. Make sure you organise your response into three main parts, the introduction, an overview and the main features supported by figures from the diagram.
Writing Task 2: You will be presented with a point of view, argument, or problem. The topics can range from the environment to immigration, culture, and even technology. You might be asked to, agree or disagree with a point of view or argument, discuss two opposing views, write about the advantages or disadvantages of a topic, or explain a given problem, or the cause of a problem and offer a solution. Your response for Academic Writing Task 2 will need to be in an essay format.
Timing: 60 minutes.
So, you may ideally spend 20 minutes on Task 1, and 40 minutes on Task 2. Note that you are responsible for managing your own time.
ReadingThe Academic Reading test assesses a wide range of reading skills including your ability to follow an argument, recognise a writer’s opinion, attitude or purpose. It looks at how well you can read to understand main ideas, details, opinions and implied meanings. Your reading comprehension skills are tested, covering skimming, scanning and reading for detail.
The Academic Reading test is made up of 3 long texts which are taken from current books, journals, magazines and newspapers. The texts are related to topics you might face if you were to study at an undergraduate or postgraduate level or apply for professional registration in an English-speaking environment.
You will have to answer 40 questions in the Academic Reading test. These questions can range from multiple choice to identifying information or a writer’s view, matching headings, features and sentence endings, as well as sentence, summary, note, table and flow-chart completions, and short-answer questions.
Timing: 60 minutes including the transfer time
SpeakingThe IELTS Speaking is the same for both General Training test and Academic test and assesses your use of spoken English. All speaking tests are conducted face-to-face with a certified IELTS examiner and are recorded in case they need to be reviewed.
The Speaking test takes between 11 and 14 minutes and consists of 3 parts. Part 1 is the first part of the test where the examiner will ask you some general questions about familiar topics like work, family, studies and hobbies.
In Part 2 you will be given a card with a topic. You will be given one minute to take notes on the topic and will be given a pencil and paper to prepare your response. You will then speak on the topic for two minutes. In Part 3 of the interview, you will have a two-way discussion with the examiner where they will ask questions related to the topic discussed in Part 2.
The Speaking test may be conducted on the same day as the other tests or a week before or after the other test parts.
Timing: 11-14 minutes
ListeningThe IELTS Listening is the same for both the IELTS Academic test and General Training test. The Listening test assesses your ability to understand main ideas, detailed information, opinions, purpose and attitudes of the speakers, as well as your ability to follow the development of ideas.
You will listen to 4 recordings in your Listening test and need to answer 40 questions based on these recordings. The first two recordings deal with situations you might experience in an everyday context. The last two recordings, however, focus on situations that might occur in an education or training context.
In recordings 1 and 3 you will hear a conversation between two or more speakers, however in recordings 2 and 4 will hear a monologue. You will need to answer questions connected to the recordings ranging from multiple choice to matching information, headings, features and sentence endings, as well as sentence, summary, note, table, diagram or flow-chart completion.
Timing: The test takes approximately 30 minutes. In addition, you are allowed an extra 10 minutes to transfer your answers from the question booklet to the answer sheet.

IELTS Band Score

The English-language skills of the candiddate during the IELTS exam are measured against band scores. These band scores range from 0 – 9; each band score corresponds to a level of English-language competence.

For example, if you get a band score of 6, it signifies you are a competent user with more or less effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. They can also use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.

Note that the candidate will be assigned a band score for each part in addtion to an overall band score. The overall score is the average of your band scores for Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening. Your band scores are given as whole or half-band scores and are rounded up to the nearest half or whole band score.

For example, if you get a 6.5 in Reading, 5 in Writing, 7 in Speaking, and 6.5 in Listening, the average of these 4 scores would be 6.25. This score would be rounded up to 6.5 for your overall band score.

Difference between band score and raw score

The Listening and Reading will be scored out of 40 and then converted  to a  band score which ranges  from  band 1  to  band 9.

The Listening and Reading tests contain 40 questions and each correct question will be awarded 1 mark (so the maximum a test  taker can score here is 40).  Band scores, ranging from band 1 to band 9, are  awarded based on the raw scores.

Review of IELTS band scores

If you are not happy with your band score, you can ask for a review of the band scores (called an Enquiry on Results).

However, the review request must be sumbitted at your test centre within six weeks of the test date.

You must pay an enquiry fee, which will be fully refunded if your band score changes.

Further, if your band score changes, you will be issued a new Test Report Form (TRF).

TOEFL iBT – Section-wise tasks and syllabus

SectionDescription
ReadingThe Reading section assesses how well you can read and understand materials used in an academic environment.
It includes two reading passages, each approximately 700 words long, with 10 questions per passage. It should take about 35 minutes to complete the Reading section.
Passages are excerpts from university-level textbooks that would be used in introductions to a topic. The passages cover a variety of subjects. All the information you need to answer the questions will be included in the passage, so even if you’re not familiar with the topic it shouldn’t be a problem.
Further, there will be a glossary feature available to define words not commonly used, if you need it.
ListeningThe TOEFL iBT Listening section is designed to measure your ability to understand conversations and lectures in English. It includes listening for:

basic comprehension
understanding the speaker’s attitude and degree of certainty
connecting information

Listening questions:
You’ll hear lectures and conversations in this section. Both use campus-based language.

3 lectures, some with classroom discussion, each 3–5 minutes; 6 questions per lecture
2 conversations, each 3 minutes; 5 questions per conversation

You can take notes on any audio item throughout the test to help you answer questions.
SpeakingThe TOEFL iBT Speaking section measures your ability to speak English effectively in academic settings. The section includes four questions/tasks that resemble real-life situations you might encounter both in and outside of a classroom.

Question 1: Independent Speaking Task — requires you to draw entirely on your own ideas, opinions and experiences when you respond.

Questions 2–4: Integrated Speaking Tasks — require you to combine your English-language skills — listening and speaking, or listening, reading and speaking — just as you would in or out of a classroom.

Prep time: You’ll get 15–30 seconds of preparation time before each response, and your response will be 45 or 60 seconds long.

Speaking response: To respond, you’ll speak into the microphone and your responses will be recorded.

Test time: It should take about 16 minutes to complete the Speaking section.

Scoring: Speaking tasks are scored based on the Speaking Scoring Guides (Rubrics) by a combination of AI scoring and certified human raters. Raw scores are converted to a scaled section score of 0–30.
WritingThe TOEFL iBT test Writing section measures your ability to write in English in an academic setting and to present your ideas in a clear, well-organized way.
There are two writing tasks.
Integrated writing task (20 minutes) — read a short passage and listen to a short lecture, then write in response to what you read and listened to. Writing for an Academic Discussion task (10 minutes) — state and support an opinion in an online classroom discussion.
You have to type your responses on a computer keyboard.
Test time: It should take about 29 minutes to complete the Writing section.
Scoring: Writing tasks are scored based on the Writing Scoring Guides (Rubrics) by a combination of AI scoring and certified human raters. Raw scores are converted to a scaled section score of 0–30.

AIBE Question Paper 2025 – Download Previous Years Paper PDFs, Prep Tips, Sample Papers

AIBE Question Paper 2025 – The Bar Council of India (BCI) is expected to conduct the AIBE XX (20) 2025 exam in December 2025. The exam will be conducted in an offline mode and in 22 languages.

AIBE is a certification exam, with candidates qualifying in the exam being issued the Certificate of Practice (CoP). The CoP is a mandator certificate required to practice in a court of law in India.

While AIBE is not necessarily a very difficult exam, it is also equally true that a large number of candidates fail to qualify it. One specific reason for that is not having the right AIBE exam preparation STRATEGY.

Now what exactly should a candidate do to prepare for the AIBE 2025 exam?

Of course, the candidate needs to follow the AIBE 2025 exam syllabus and complete it. But the candidate can go forward and solve previous years’ AIBE question papers to give more teeth to their exam preparation. You can download the previous years’ questions papers of AIBE exam below.

Latest Updates:

Why should the candidate solve AIBE question papers?

There are multiple benefits of solving question papers to prepare for the AIBE (20) XX exam. The important ones are mentioned below.

  • The AIBE question papers give you a glimpse into the exact questions that are asked in the previous editions of the exam.
  • So, you can evaluate the types of questions asked, the difficulty level, and how much time it will be required to prepare for these types of questions.
  • The AIBE (20) syllabus, or for that matter the AIBE (20) exam pattern, is not enough to give a proper insight into the AIBE 2025 question paper.
  • Also, you can check if there is a particular trend that the AIBE exam follows. For instance, what types of questions are asked from the GK section.
  • By solving the sample papers you will be able to get confidence and can learn how to attempt the paper.
  • However, make sure that you don’t limit yourself to solving only previous years papers.
  • Instead, go ahead and solve as many AIBE sample papers as you can.

When to solve AIBE Question Papers

The candidate can start solving question papers as well as sample papers very early on in their preparation. For instance, after you have completed a few topics, check if there are any related questions asked in the previous edition of the AIBE exam. If yes, then solve those questions.

As you move deeper into the AIBE (20) XX exam preparation, you will be able to solve a major chunk of the AIBE question paper.

And by the time you complete the AIBE 2025 exam syllabus, you should be able to solve the entire question paper.

Also Read:

How many sample papers to solve for AIBE 2025 exam preparation

There is no upper cap on the number of sample papers you need for AIBE exam preparation 2025.

In fact, the more AIBE sample papers you solve, the better positioned you will be to do well in the AIBE (XX) 2025 exam.

That being said, it is important that the sample papers cover the entire syllabus. Also, don’t keep solving the same or similar types of questions again and again.

Ensure that you are solving all types of questions. The difficult types must be taken special care of.

AIBE Question Paper SET Codes

The AIBE exam question paper is usually set in FOUR paper codes – A, B, C, and D.

Irrespective of the paper code, the AIBE question paper will have the same questions.

But question papers with the same code (say A), will have the questions set in the same sequence. However, the question papers with different codes will have the questions arranged differently.

The AIBE question paper is set in different codes to ensure that cheating is kept at a bare minumum.

Why you must know about Higher Education Apex Level Bodies?

While you aren’t required to know the finer details of what these bodies do or how they function, it is recommended that you read up on them and understand the purpose of their existence and the role they plays.

This is why:

  • To begin with, if you understand an apex level body, you can navigate the system with a sound understanding of what it is about, what it does, how it can help and assist you, and the various security apparatus designed for the student. For instance, if you take admission in a UGC-recognized institute, you get a minimum basic standard, unlike say in a non-UGC recognized institute. The non-UGC recognized institute may have poor infrastructure and faculty, and may not be student-oriented.
  • Knowing about the higher education apex level bodies will also help you make a realistic estimation when you pursue a program or appear in an entrance exam to pursue one. You may also raise the alarm if you think there are some or any shortcomings in any of these bodies. While changes may not come immediately, if many like minded people come together and there is enough weight in your arguments, even ordinary people can bring about an improvement (if and when needed) to these bodies.
