Students take up coaching in the home of personal assistance by the coaching staff.
But the catch here is that coaching institutes today have hundreds of students in each batch.
So, getting personal attention can be a far fetch dream, unless you are a very good student and the coaching institute feels like investing in you could be gainful (for instance, they may feel like you are a good bet to get a rank in the entrance exam, which if tt happens, can be good promotion for the institute.)
Self-study, as the term indicates, is dependent to a large extent on what the candidates do and decisions they take.
The candidate may be influenced by peer groups, family members, but otherwise, he or she is free to make their own decisions regarding what to study and what to study.
Study material provided
The coaching institutes have their own custom-made study material that students must follow for exam preparation.
The candidate is free to choose any study material they find suitable.
It is recommended that the candidate opts for best study material recommended for each subject by experts.
Getting external help
Candidates who undertake coaching more or less depend on coaching manuals.
Also, when the candidate is already taking coaching, one is not expected to again seek help somewhere else.
That being said, if the coaching is inadequate, the candidate may seek help from their teachers, experts.
The candidate while doing self-study is free to get as much external help as possible, from teachers, peers, or even experts, if it is available for free.
The quality of help one can avail will depend on the available resources and also the judgement of the candidate.
The candidate must be smart enough to filter out the good advice from the bad.
Time available for self-study
If you are doing coaching, you will have very limited time available for self-study.
Typically, coaching classes will take up 2-3 hours every day. Add to add another 1-2 hours of travel time.
So, you must smartly utilize your time for revision of coaching manuals. Further, you must also find some time to read the textbooks.
This is because if you become over reliant on the notes provided by the coaching institutes, you might lose the habit of reading textbooks or miss out on nuggets of wisdom that they may contain.
Since you are already doing self-study, you have no scarcity of time at your disposal.
So, you can tweak and adjust your exam preparation routine multiple times.
Which to opt for?
If you have covered most of the fundamental concepts, coaching can be an option.
But that being said you need to do some research about the institute, the faculty they have.
Also, realize that just taking up coaching won’t matter unless you also complete the study material they share, solve sample papers, and do timely revision.
You must assess your progress keenly after, say, month.
If you feel like coaching is not helping you much, you can opt out and focus on self-study.
If you are a strong kid with strong belief in your abilities to self-learn, then self-study can be fruitful.
Truth be told, there is enough good study material around and if you could complete these texts (as per the syllabus for your exam, you will put yourself in the right track.
After completing a few topics, solve relevant problems, including those given in the sample papers and previous years’ question papers.
Also, since most entrance exams are time-controlled, you need to focus on improving speed and accuracy.

When to take coaching for entrance exam preparation?
While we don’t at all recommend that students take coaching for entrance exam preparation, it is also true that many students will still depend on coaching for exam preparation.
So, here we have stipulated a few thumb rules that candidates may consider before enrolling into a coaching institute:
You need some help to improve your problem-solving abilities or conceptual understanding of topics. In this case, a crash course may suffice.
However, if there are large gaps in your exam preparation, short-term courses won’t cut it. You need a proper course. But note that long-term coaching courses will also be expensive.
You need last minute motivation and a peer group to practice with – In some cases your self-study is going great guns, but you may want to spice up things by taking a crash course and test your progress in a peer group.
In some cases the candidate is simply not able to do self-study. In that case, a coaching institute can provide a helping hand.
Also, if you are a very good candidate, you may also consider taking up coaching considering coaching institutes tend to pay special attention to brilliant students.
Here are a few disadvantages associated with coaching:
Most coaching institutes can have 30-40 students per batch, which means there is very little room for personalized attention. If you are a mediocre student and need some special attention, you will need to self-approach the faculty try to get help. If you are a shy guy or if the faculty is unresponsive, you will keep lagging behind.
Another thing is if you lagging behind, you will also have very little time for self-study with all the travelling and time spent at the coaching center.
Success rate of coaching institutes – Just take a closer look at how many students enrolled at the coaching institutes actually achieve success. If there are only a handful, then it may mean that these students got preferential attention, are already meritorious students, or these students may have put a praiseworthy effort.
You may lose the habit of reading textbooks – Coaching institutes have their own study material, meaning most candidates will not even open any textbooks or know what exactly is inside them. Now this is not a very healthy practice. Being fed ready made stuff by the coaching institutes may compromise the self-learning ability of the candidate. In other words, the candidate will expect to be spoon fed every time, and if there comes a time when things may not go right, they may lose faith.
NIRF Ranking 2025 – The Ministry of Education (MoE), GoI, released the NIRF Rankings 2025 on September 4, 2025. The rankings have been released for 17 categories. A new category has been added – Sustainable Development Goals, which is topped by IIT Madras.
IIT Madras topped the Overall category, followed by IISc Bangalore in 2nd, and IIT Bombay in third place. IISc Bangalore topped the University category, with JNU in second, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education-Manipal in 3rd place. Jamia Milia Islamia, who occupied the 3rd place in the last edition, was pushed to the 4th place.
While there were speculations that this year’s rankings will exclude the Medical category, no such things happened. Like in the previous editions, the medical rankings were also released. The category, as expected, is topped by AIIMS Delhi, with PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College Vellore in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.
This year the rankings were dogged by controversies, including data integrity issues. A PIL was filed in the Madras High Court, which led to the court slapping a stay notice of the publication of the rankings. The PIL has since been dismissed.

What’s NEW in the NIRF Rankings 2025?
The NIRF 2025 rankings should be out in September 2025. Here are a few changes that might be made to the NIRF Rankings this year.
The rankings may exclude the Medical category. According to news published by portals like shiksha.com, the rankings could be excluded due to persistent discrepancies in data submitted by participating institutes. If that happens, it could land a body blow to the NIRF Rankings and its credibility.
Introduction of negative marking – In a welcome change, negative marking has been introduced for withdrawing research publications. The penalty for the time being has been kept low, with provisions to increase it if needed. The negative marking will presumably discourage institutions from publishing research papers just to get extra marks in the ranking parameters, only to withdraw the papers once the ranking process is over. Such types of activities by institutions do a disservice to the education sector.

The key insights from NIRF Rankings 2024 are given below.
The NIRF 2024 rankings wee published for 16 categories.
Three categories were newly added, viz., State Public Universities, Open Universities, and Skill Universities.
IIT Madras marked its sixth straight year at the top in the Overall category, while in the Engineering category, it achieved a historic ninth straight year at the top.
In the Management category, IIM Ahmedabad marked it fifth consecutive year at the top.
Hindu College took the crown from Miranda House to be ranked the best college in the country.
AIIMS Delhi (No. 1), PGIMER Chandigarh (No. 2), and Christian Medical College (No. 3), Vellore, were the top medical colleges. It was the seventh straight year for AIIMS Delhi atop the rankings.
Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai, was ranked 1st in the Dental category.
The Innovation category was topped by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, was the top ranked institute in the Agriculture and Allied Sectors.
The newly introduced State Public Universities category was topped by Anna University, Chennai.
The NIRF Rankings 2024 were declared on August 12. The ranking lists are prepared by the Ministry of Education. The rankings were published online at the official NIRF website – nirfindia.org.

Overall, IIT Madras was ranked the best educational institution for the sixth consecutive year running.
IIT Madras (1), IIT Delhi (2), and IIT Bombay (3) were ranked the top THREE engineering colleges in the country.
Meanwhile, Hindu College leapfrogged Miranda House to be crowned the best college in the country.
In the Universities section, IISc Bangalore came first, followed by JNU, New Delhi, in second, and JMI, New Delhi, in third.

NID DAT Exam 2026 Update – The National Institute of Design (NID) will likely release the NID DAT 2026 application form and exam notification anytime now. In the previous edition, the application opened on September 3, 2024.
With the admission process now over for NID DAT 2025, the admission process for the next session will START soon.
The admission notification will be released online at admissions.nid.edu.
It will contain information like the eligibility criteria for the B.Des and M.Des courses, admission process, application fee, seat matrix, information brochure, syllabus, pattern, and other key updates about the exam.

NID DAT 2025 Admission Process Over
The admission process for the NID DAT 2025 has concluded.
Two rounds of seat allotments were announced for the B.Des and M.Des courses. The last rank and score for the last candidate allotted a seat as on July 31 can be downloaded from the NID admission portal in PDF format.
NIRF Ranking 2025 – The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for 2025 will likely be released in the 1st half of September 2025. The rankings are delayed largely in part to the Madras High Court staying the release in response to a PIL that claimed universities were submitting false information and gaming the system. The High Court has since dismissed the plea.
It may be noted that the NIRF Ranking 2024 was published on August 12, 2024.
Medical Category to be Dropped
There is also a possibility that this years’ rankings will exclude the Medical category, a move that could be prompted again by data integrity issues.
If the rankings for the category are in fact omitted, it will put a severe dent on the NIRF Ranking system. For one, it will confuse students as to whether the rankings published in previous editions are genuine or they are also under the scanner.
Such doubts will make it difficult for students to make a shortlist of medical colleges for admission, especially the mid- to lower-ranked ones, or ones that are not very popular.
It was the NIRF rankings which gave a candidate the confidence to take admission to a college that one knew very little about. Now with the rankings being compromised, things become all the more complicated.
Negative marking introduced for withdrawal of research paper
If a research paper is retracted, the institute will be penalized. However, for now, the penalties are kept at a low level, with scope for stricter penalties in next editions.
What does NIRF Ranking Controversy Tells Us
The recent ranking fiasco shows the central government in poor light. Only a few days back, the nation was gripped by allegations over misconduct of the SSC exam, which was followed by lathicharge of protesting students and teachers.
Apart from that, allegations of paper leakage have become commonplace, with the most recent incident being the ED raid in Patna over the NEET-UG paper leak case.
It is high time the government does some soul searching and starts accepting the reality that the education sector needs a real revamp and the ministers handling important portfolios need to be accountable. Currently, the government is in a pass the buck mode with little accountability.
IIT Bombay will start the admission process for UCEED 2026 in October 2025. In a notification published on July 30, it had notified that the UCEED 2026 exam will be conducted on January 18, 2026, while the detailed exam notification will be released by October 1, 2025.
It is very likely that the UCEED 2026 application form will be released alongwith the exam notification; in the previous edition, the application form opened on October 1, 2024.

The UCEED 2026 exam will be conducted on Sunday, 18th January, 2026 (9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon). Part A of the exam will be conducted in a computer-based mode, whereas Part B will be held offline.

NIFTEE 2025 Exam (Stage 2) for UG Courses – Quick Highlights
i. For UG Program Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), a Situation Test will be conducted in 18 cities across Bharat. The Bar Council of India (BCI) is expected to release the exam notification for the AIBE (XX) 2025 exam around the last week of August or early September 2025. The notification will be released at allindiabarexamination.com.
AIBE is a certification exam that is taken by law graduates to earn the Certificate of Practice.
The AIBE 2025 exam notification will carry details like the AIBE 2025 exam and application dates, eligibility criteria, application process, fees, and other updates.
In the previous edition, the AIBE XIX exam schedule was notified on September 3, 2024. You can check the details here.
BCI will likely conduct the AIBE 2025 exam in December 2025. The exam will be of 3 hours 30 minutes duration and will be held offline. The AIBE 2025 application form is expected to open in September 2025.
AIBE passing percentage
The passing percentage in the AIBE exam is fixed at 45% for GEN/OBC Candidates and at 40% for SC/ST and Disabled Candidates.
If a candidate fails to secure the passing percentage, they can appear in the next edition of the AIBE exam, which is typically conducted once every year.
Can I practice law without the CoP
The Certificate of Practice is issued only to candidates who qualify in the AIBE exam. Further, the CoP is mandatory to practice in a court of law.
So, if you don’t qualify the AIBE exam, won’t be issued the CoP, and subsequently are ineligible to practice law in Indian courts.
Will there be any changes in the AIBE XX exam?
The BCI will notify candidates if there are any changes in the AIBE exam.
There can be any of the following or similar changes:
The syllabus can be updated
The exam pattern can be changed
Changes can be made to the eligibility criteria; but note that there is unlikely to be any drastic changes.
IIT Bombay will release the detailed exam notification for the UCEED 2026 and CEED 2026 exams by October 1, 2025. It had earlier notified that both the exams will be conducted on January 18, 2026 (9 am – 12 noon).
The detailed notification will likely include the information brochure, eligibility criteria, important dates, and other important updates.
Launch of new exam portal for CEED and UCEED 2026
IIT Bombay will also likely launch the admission portals for the exams.
Currently, the exam portals for the CEED 2025 and UCEED 2025 exams are active.
The admission portal, along with exam updates, will contain resources like previous years’ question papers and answer keys, information brochure, etc.

IIT Bombay is expected to start the application form of UCEED 2026 and CEED 2026 anytime now.
In the previous edition, the CEED/ UCEED application form opened on October 1, 2024.
The application form will have to be submitted online by candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. Also, when filling out the form, use only genuine and verifiable information.
It is because information entered by the candidate will be verified at the time of UCEED 2026 counseling/ CEED 2026 counseling.
CEED/ UCEED 2026 Exam Date
The exams will be conducted on January 18, 2026 (9 am – 12 noon). Part A will be a computer-based test, whereas Part A will be administered offline.
MH CET Law 2026 – State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, is expected to release the application form of MH CET law 2026 in December 2025. The application form will open online at cetcell.mahacet.org.

MH CET Law 2026 exam will be conducted separately for the 3-year and 5-year LLB programs. The entrance exam for the 5-year LLB program will be conducted around the last week of April, while the exam for the 3-year LLB program will be conducted around 1st week of May 2026.
The entrance exams for both the courses will be conducted in an online mode, include 120 MCQs, and will be of 2 hours duration. Candidates who meet the MH CET Law 2026 eligibility criteria must apply before the last date.

Online registration of MH CET law 2026 for the 3-year LLB is expected to commence in the 4th week of December 2025. Applications for the 5-year LLB program will be released soon after, around the 1st week of January 2026.
Applications for both the programs will be available online at cetcell.mahacet.org.
Candidates who meet the program-specific MH CET Law 2026 eligibility criteria must apply before the last date. To fill up the forms, the candidate must follow these steps.
How to apply for MHCET Law 2026
Go to the MHCET Law 2026 exam portal
Click on the registration tab
In the registration form that opens, enter your name, email ID, and mobile number. Also, select and confirm a password for the applicant account.
Fill in the form – Upon registration, you need to log-in to the candidate account and fill in personal, academic, and contact details.
Select an exam center – In this step, you need to select three exam cities in the order of priority.
Upload documents – Next, you must upload your signature and photograph as per the given specifications.
Pay the application fee – Finally, pay the exam fee to complete the application process.

MH CET Law Exam Syllabus 2026
The candidate must refer to the official MH CET Law 2026 syllabus to prepare for the exam. The syllabus will outline the topics from which questions will be asked in the exam.
The MHT CET Law 2026 exam question paper will have five sections for the 5-year LLB program, and four sections for the 3-year LLB program.
The syllabus will include the topics for each of these sections.
To give oneself the best shot at getting a good score, the candidate must thoroughly prepare the topics for their chosen subject.
MH CET Law Admit Card 2026
The admit card of MH CET Law 2026 will be made available for all successfully registered candidates a few days before the exam.
The admit card will have to be downloaded online at cetcell.mahacet.org.
To download the admit card-cum-hall ticket of MH CET Law 2026, the candidate needs to follow these steps:
Go to the MH CET Law 2025 exam portal
Click on the admit card link
A log-in window will open; enter the following details: 1) MH CET law 2026 registration number, and 2) Date of Birth
On successful log-in, the admit card will open in downloadable pdf format
Download and take a printout of the MH CET Law 2026 hall ticket.
The hall ticket will carry details like name and address of the MH CET Law exam center, reporting time, exam date and time, roll number, candidate name, and other important details.
On the day of the exam, bring the admit card and a valid photo ID proof.
MH CET Law Exam Center 2026
The MH CET Law 2026 exam will be conducted in selected cities in Maharashtra and
Outside Maharashtra State.
The candidate has to select THREE exam cities at the time of filling out the application form. The entered choices must be in the order of priority.
Note that each exam city may have one or more exam centers depending on the number of applicants.
The name and address of the MH CET Law 2026 exam city allocated to the candidate will be mentioned on the admit card, along with other details like reporting time, rules and instructions to be followed inside the exam center, etc.
MH CET Law Exam Result 2026
The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, will release the results of MH CET Law 2026 separately for the 3-year and 5-year LLB courses.
MH CET Law 2026 results for the 5-year LLB program will be declared around the 1st week of June, while results for the 3-year LLB program will be announced around the 3rd week of June 2026.
The results will be declared online at cetcell.mahacet.org.

Candidates who are appearing in the MH CET Law 2026 must solve sample and previous years’ question papers.
The previous years’ question papers can be solved to understand the types of questions asked, difficulty level, scope of questions asked, and how questions are framed.
