Budget schools in Telangana shift to CBSE as parental demand rises

0

A growing trend is emerging in Telangana’s school education landscape, with a significant number of budget private schools moving away from the state syllabus to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. This transition is being driven mainly by parental demand for quality education and broader opportunities for students.

Why Schools Are Switching

School authorities and parent groups in Telangana report that post-pandemic priorities have shifted. Parents increasingly value:

  • Holistic education over rote learning
  • Better preparation for competitive exams like JEE and NEET
  • Perceived advantages in infrastructure and teaching standards associated with CBSE schools

This preference is not limited to urban centres – even schools in mandals and rural areas are seeking to adopt the CBSE curriculum

Scale of the Shift

Over the past two to three years, educational administrators estimate that around 500 to 600 budget schools across the state have applied for No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to transition from the state board syllabus to CBSE. These schools include those in smaller towns and mandal headquarters, not just larger cities.

Many school heads explicitly say that parent pressure is a key factor in applying for CBSE affiliation. “Post-pandemic, parents are no longer looking at marks alone. They want overall development and are increasingly moving away from the state syllabus,” one school operator told The Times of India

Financial Implications for Families

One of the most visible effects of the shift is on school fee structures:

  • Under the state syllabus (SSC), annual fees in rural budget schools typically range between ₹20,000 and ₹35,000.
  • After moving to a CBSE affiliation, fees frequently rise to ₹50,000 or more annually, even in smaller towns.

This fee increase is frequently justified by schools as necessary to meet CBSE’s infrastructural and faculty requirements

What Schools Say About CBSE Curriculum

School management representatives have cited multiple benefits of a CBSE shift:

  • Structured and regular teacher training and monitoring
  • Greater institutional support via regional CBSE offices
  • Curriculum alignment with national expectations and competitive exam preparation
  • Stronger appeal to parents seeking an ‘all-round development’ model

One school head from Khammam said that CBSE affiliation provides a “minimum guarantee that a school will have decent facilities and qualified teachers,” emphasizing the difference in expectations between boards.

Concerns Over Access and Inequality

Education experts caution that the shift to CBSE may widen inequalities in school access:

  • Higher fees may put quality education out of reach for lower-income families
  • Smaller government and state-board schools may see further erosion of enrolment
  • Rising private education costs could exacerbate educational disparities in rural areas

What This Means for Telangana’s Education System

The ongoing shift suggests a major reorientation in parental preferences and school strategy in Telangana:

  • CBSE is increasingly seen as a pathway to national competitive exams and broader higher-education options
  • Budget schools are recalibrating their offerings to match demand

The shape of school education in Telangana may change significantly in the coming years, with more institutions aligning with national curricula

CBSE Withdraws Affiliation of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur Over Safety Violations

0

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has withdrawn the affiliation of Neerja Modi School in Jaipur with immediate effect after a probe into the death of a 9-year-old Class 4 student on November 1, 2025 exposed serious lapses in child safety protocols, official documents show.

The board’s action follows an internal investigation and issuance of notices to the school under the Affiliation Bye-Laws of CBSE, which set out mandatory safety and grievance-redressal requirements for affiliated institutions.

Incident and Probe Findings

On November 1, 2025, a Class 4 student – identified in official references as a 9-year-old child – died after falling from the fourth floor of the school building in Jaipur. A CBSE fact-finding committee was constituted and visited the school on November 3, 2025, following which it held discussions with the student’s family and reviewed documentation.

The CBSE probe report cited “gross violations of child safety norms”, including failure of the school’s counselling mechanism and grievance redressal system mandated under the board’s affiliation bylaws. Based on the committee’s findings and the school’s responses, the board concluded safety protocols were not adequately implemented.

CBSE Order and Penalties

In an official order dated December 30, 2025, the CBSE stated that the cumulative evidence showed a “complete failure” in the institution’s safety framework, justifying the severest penalty – withdrawal of affiliation up to the Senior Secondary level

As per the order:

  • Existing Class 10 and 12 students may complete their Board examinations at the same school for the 2025-26 session
  • Students currently in Classes 9 and 11 are to be transferred by Regional Officer (CBSE, Ajmer) to nearby schools for the 2026-27 session by March 31, 2026
  • The school has been instructed not to admit new students or promote current pupils in lower classes to Classes 9 and 11 for future sessions.

The board’s decision also allows Neerja Modi School to apply for restoration of affiliation up to the secondary level from the 2027-28 academic year onwards, but only after full compliance with safety and child protection requirements stipulated under the affiliation bylaws.

Safety Norms and Child Protection Standards

CBSE affiliation bylaws require schools to maintain robust mechanisms for student safety, including physical infrastructure safeguards, counselling services, and a functioning grievance redressal system for safeguarding children’s wellbeing. The board’s order emphasized that lack of such mechanisms can undermine the safe school environment that affiliation is premised upon.

In its public explanation, CBSE noted that the findings indicated failure of counselling and redressal systems to address repeated concerns, which the board said were raised prior to the incident.

Response and Next Steps

The CBSE action underscores intensified scrutiny of school safety standards nationwide, following a series of high-profile incidents in recent years. While Neerja Modi School’s affiliation has been withdrawn for the senior secondary section, details regarding the status of Classes 1-8 remain subject to decisions by the Rajasthan Directorate of Secondary Education, as indicated in the CBSE order.

The school has been given an opportunity to address lapses and re-apply for affiliation in compliance with all statutory safety norms after the prescribed waiting period.

Detailed question paper analysis and memory-based questions are expected to be released by coaching institutes and subject experts after the completion of additional shifts.

Answer key, result process and qualifying criteria

The NTA is expected to release the provisional answer key after all scheduled exam dates are completed. After reviewing objections, the final answer key and results will be declared.

To qualify UGC NET, candidates must secure at least 40 per cent marks (general category) or 35 per cent marks (reserved categories), subject to category-wise and subject-wise cut-offs determined through normalization.

What candidates should track next

With exams scheduled through January 7, candidates appearing in upcoming shifts are advised to regularly check the official website for admit card releases, subject-wise schedules, and exam-related instructions. Updates on answer keys, result dates, and cut-off trends are expected after the conclusion of all six exam days.

UP Police Constable Recruitment Delayed; Notification Still Awaited

0

The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable recruitment process has been delayed, with the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board yet to release the official notification. Aspirants who were expecting the recruitment drive to begin by the end of the year are still waiting for clarity on application dates, vacancy details, and the examination schedule.

As per the latest updates available on leading education portals and the official recruitment platform, no formal announcement has been issued so far regarding the commencement of the constable recruitment process. The delay has led to uncertainty among candidates preparing for one of the largest state-level police recruitment drives in the country.

The board has not cited any official reason for the delay. However, candidates have been advised to rely only on official notifications and avoid speculation regarding tentative dates circulating on social media and unofficial sources.

Chronology of the recruitment delay

Earlier this year, candidates were expecting the UP Police Constable recruitment notification to be released after the completion of previous recruitment processes. Tentative timelines suggested that the notification could be issued towards the end of the year, followed by the opening of the online application window.

Despite these expectations, the recruitment notification was not released in the anticipated period. As the year draws to a close, the board has yet to confirm a revised schedule, indicating that the recruitment process may now shift to the next phase once administrative and procedural requirements are completed.

What candidates should do meanwhile

Aspirants are advised to continue their preparation and regularly check the official recruitment website for updates. Once released, the notification will provide details on the number of vacancies, eligibility criteria, age limits, application procedure, selection stages, and exam pattern.

The UP Police Constable recruitment is expected to attract a large number of applicants, and timely preparation will be crucial once the application process begins.

The recruitment board is expected to issue an official update soon to bring clarity on the delayed process and outline the next steps for candidates.

Types of Vacancies

Based on earlier UP Police constable recruitment notifications, the upcoming drive is expected to include constable posts in Civil Police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), and Special Security Force units. These recruitments have traditionally been conducted for uniformed constable-level positions across various wings of the Uttar Pradesh Police. However, the exact number of vacancies, post-wise distribution, and eligibility details will be confirmed only after the official notification is released.
